Automata

From Dwarves! - Minecraft Roleplaying Server

When Jolvis Volt and his various followers fled to the Thorn, they began building various devices and structures around the area. The Automata were initially created by Jolvis to perform various tasks and functions deemed too dangerous, or perhaps tedious, for himself and his crew.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

In general, each Automata resembles a very large humanoid built of metal. Most have been made of iron or steel, others show parts wrought from more specialist metals, whilst others are almost unrecognisable. Each Automata is powered by internal devices usually made of redstone, though some have been observed to seemingly run on fire, lava, coal, steam or even clockwork. The intricacies of the devices used are beyond the understanding of even the greatest of minds, with Jolvis being one of the only exceptions.

Behaviour[edit | edit source]

Unlike almost anything else in the world, Automata are created to function in one particular task, or sometimes a number of them. Their last assigned task is what they will quite happily continue to do until they are given another, rust away, or simply stop functioning. Though it sometimes seems like they are sentient, or at least sapient, this is merely due to the complex nature of the tasks that they have been given.

Combat[edit | edit source]

Many, if not all, of the Automata are created from metal and built to last. They are a strong, durable and powerful, though slow, foe if engaged. It is advised to approach in a well-defended group, using the terrain to your advantage.

Drops[edit | edit source]

When killed, Automata drop various parts of themselves that can be utilised in other contraptions and mechanics. The specific use for these parts are now unknown, as they have been wrested from the powered down bodies of the Automata, but they can contain redstone repeaters, comparators, redstone dust, simple string or large metal plates.

Ecology[edit | edit source]

The Automata have seemingly no thoughts on any other type of wildlife, unless that wildlife has been specified in their tasks somehow. They have been built to withstand many different environments that Humans cannot survive in, so can be found in almost any habitat. It is rare to see them outside of a construction or device that was made by Jolvis and his crew, but recently some have managed to either escape or simply wander out.

Cultural Impact[edit | edit source]

So far, the Automata have been isolated to the small peninsula past the Thorn. They have had no impact on the world at large, save for Jolvis' work or the impact on the Dwarves at Thornheim.
